Silver Lakes Property

Silver Lakes property is the address of choice in Pretoria. Silver Lakes Golf Estate was the first secure estate in the Pretoria property area to combine an exclusive residential development with an 18-hole championship golf course and then later added a nature reserve, well stocked with small plains game. With 1530 stands and covering more than 334 hectares, Silver Lakes is one of the largest residential lifestyle estates of its kind.

The Silver Lakes region is centrally situated in the East of Pretoria, which means it is close to regional- and convenience shopping centres, private- and state-run schools, hospitals and specialist clinics and a short distance from the historic Capital. Immediate access to the N4 highway provides connectivity to the Gauteng highway network and, in the near future, to the Gautrain and the fast-rail connections to Johannesburg and O.R. Tambo International Airport.

Currently the development statistics are as follows:

  • Total Number of Stands = 1 530
  • Golf Course Facing Stands = 279
  • General Stands = 747
  • Boundary Stands = 176
  • Sub-divided Stands = 325
  • Commercial = 3

Property in Silver Lakes are accessed through two security gate-houses, the main gate, on the west side from Hans Strydom drive and the secondary gate, on the east from Lynnwood Road. Both gate-houses have double access- and exit lanes to reduce congestion.

Security surrounding Silver Lakes is a top priority and the vicinity is manned by professional security personnel on a 24-hour basis. Reinforced perimeter walls, topped by zoned electrified fence, armed response, regular patrols, manned- and biometric fingerprint access control, ensure residents’ peace of mind. Recently, through an independent magazine survey, Silver Lakes Property was voted ‘the most secure Estate in South Africa’, judged from a sample of 28 suburbs in the six largest cities in the country.

Homeowners’ interests are well looked after by an executive home owner’s association management structure, which serves to direct the activities of a management team under an executive general manager. The management team is housed in a purpose-designed office block owned by the HOA at the main entrance.

The golf course is privately owned and operated. With over 1000 members, the impressive Peter Matkovich course is challenging to amateur and professional alike and rated amongst the top 50 courses in South Africa. Manicured practice facilities include a driving range with target greens, chipping greens and practice bunkers. The Pro Shop is world-class, with a resident director of golf and a team of instructors to assist in every aspect of the game and equipment.  An exciting addition is the Silver Lakes ‘Motion Golf’ Academy, operated by Moos Gammon, which will focus on honing established skills and nurturing junior and ladies golf, by providing the best golf and fitness instruction in the world.

Central to the Silver Lakes property region is the spectacular privately owned and operated clubhouse, dominating the aesthetic theme of the Estate with its grand colonial architecture.  The clubhouse has panoramic views over the picture perfect lakes that gave the region its name. In addition to the halfway house and  lounge facilities , the clubhouse offers excellent informal a la carte alfresco dining at ‘Fairways’ and the bar, as well as superb conference- and banqueting facilities. A home food delivery service is also available to residents of Silver lake. This is one of the prime suburbs of property in South Africa

With over 140 species of birds recorded in Silver Lakes, the various lakes, dams, natural water courses and wetlands provide an ideal environment for nature lovers and Silver Lakes residents.  In 2001, a 150ha nature reserve area was incorporated into the region. This area is home to blesbuck, nyala, impala, duiker, zebra, kudu and springbuck, all of which roam freely. An elevated viewing platform overlooks the natural lake and wetland which forms the hub of the reserve, where water birds and game congregate. In addition, several heritage sites dating back to the late Iron Age were discovered in this area. A nature trail through the reserve and a game viewing deck comprise popular retreats for Silver Lakes residents. Besides the game reserve, the area also has approximately 160 properties which were positioned to ensure maximum views and privacy.

Above all, the golf course and water features offers residents space, to amble, walk, jog, cycle or simply sit and embrace the lifestyle. A number of Clubs and societies actively operate in Silver Lakes Golf Estate for the benefit of residents, including duplicate bridge, fishing, cycling, tennis, squash as well as social gatherings in which residents are encouraged to participate. Two tennis courts, squash courts and a swimming pool are popular attractions and are all located at the Clubhouse. The Estate also has three specially designated child play areas.

Various committees provide an ideal opportunity for Silver Lakes real estate owners to participate with fellow residents in social activities, community activities and decision-making on the Estate. Social responsibility, security, environmental, landscaping and social committees meet on a regular basis to discuss issues relevant to specific spheres of interest. The Social Committee is involved in organising events and fun activities on the Estate for residents on a regular basis.  These events are always well-attended by residents and enjoyed by adults and children alike.

Three shuttle buses operate on the estate throughout the day, to shuttle workers to and from the entrance gates to their places of employment and residents who do not wish to use their own vehilces. INTRA MUROS is the official monthly life-style magazine of the Silver Lakes Home Owner’s Association. Incorporating the Silver Lakes Country Club supplement, this glossy table-top magazine has a distribution number of over 2000, which includes residents and golf club members.
