Scottburgh Property
Known as the Jewel of the kwaZulu Natal South Coast, the Scottburgh property region was named after the Governor of Natal, John Scott. Aliwal Shoal just north of Scottburgh was so named when Captain James Anderson, skipper of the barque ‘Aliwal’ noticed the shoal in 1849, after narrowly avoiding a collision therewith. As a direct result of this a lighthouse was built at both Clansthal and Scottburgh.
Today the Aliwal Shoal is nationally and internationally known for its rich marine life and coral and is considered a world-renowned scuba diving spot, attracting divers from far and wide to see the abundant marine life. The Zulu King Shaka holds the distinction of having named another world-famous dive site, namely Umkomanzi which translated means ‘The Place of Whales’, so-named after the tribe encountered cow whales lying with their calves. Umkomanzi or Umkomaas, as it is known locally, is another world class dive site. Scottburgh Surf Lifesaving Club was formed in 1929 and has rescued in excess of 5000 individuals from the ocean. Today, Scottburgh SLC is a voluntary club serving the public in a dedicated and caring manner, so anyone residing or holidaying in the area are assured of saftey on the local beaches.
The Scottburgh arena is an area that appeals to both old and young, retired people and families and boasts an excellent high school with good record in terms of both academics and sport. There is also a very good general hospital, as well a couple of private healthcare facilities. The Amanzimtoti property and Durban property areas are but a 40 minute drive from Scottburgh via an excellent highway. Durban has many tertiary institutions, including the University of Kwazulu Natal, the Durban Technical Institute and private colleges like UNISA to name but the most illustrious. Upon leaving the Scottburgh property area you are a mere 20 minutes away from Amanzimtoti, which has a new LifeStyle centre and will by the end of November 2009 see the opening of The Galleria, a vast shopping mall which will include a whopping ten cinemas. The Scottburgh region, therefore, offers the best of both - a slower lifestyle within close proximity to major amenities.
Scottburgh properties are varied and there is something to suit everyone’s pocket, be it for leisure, business or residential purposes. Properties range from small flats that suit retired people who flock to the South Coast of Kwazulu Natal to revel in the warm winters and glorious summers; to beautiful family homes that appeal to families, with the beach and great surfing conditions a sure hit with children and parents alike. Residential rental properties are plentiful and there is definitely something on the Scottburgh property market to suit all tastes and budgets.
Today Scottburgh boasts various restaurants, shopping malls and a plethora of golf courses; in fact, many visitors come to the area especially to make use of the many superb golfing facilities. Scott Street, which runs through the town, is a bustling area with easy access to shops, coffee bars, a good library, banks and curio shops. There is a weekly market which caters for all tastes and there are many festivals and fêtes during the year that add to the vibrant holiday mood of this lovely town. Scottburgh has a good public hospital, as well as a couple of private healthcare facilities.
In conclusion, there is no-one, be they young or old; whether they enjoy the hectic world of surfing and scuba diving or the more regal pace of golfing and gentle walks along the beach, that would not like to live or holiday in the Scottburgh property area.
